 Honor your parents

Ephesians 6:2-3 "Honor your father and mother" —which is the first commandment with a promise — "so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

As I write this devotion I tremble with fear because I am guilty of breaking this commandment more than all of you reading this. When God gives us a commandment in His word there are definite consequences when we disobey them. Yes it is difficult to follow every commandment of His but as He promised His grace is sufficient. If we ask Him He will give us the grace to live a life of obedience towards His word and commandments.

Some of us are unable to see breakthroughs in our lives, some of us are going through endless health issues and some of us are facing only failures in our workplaces inspite of working so hard. One reason for this can be may be we are not honoring our parents as we ought to. I do not say that dishonoring parents is only reason for no breakthrough or failures or ill health but what I meant to say is when we hurt our parents by dishonoring them then we do have to bear the consequences. Remember what we sow we are gonna reap. Those of us who do not give respect to our parents as due unto them may have to face the same thing from our children or grand children.

Gods word is very strict in regards to the punishment concerning this commandment Matthew 15:4 For God said, ’Honor your father and mother’ and ’Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ and Proverbs 30:17 "The eye that mocks a father, that scorns an aged mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures. At the same time of all the 10 commandments this is the only one which has a blessing attached to it in the statement itself. Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

So let us be careful in following this for when we obey the commandment there is a sure blessing to follow.

Praise Continually

Psalms 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

I feel there doesn't exist any person in this world who dislikes music. Our tastes may differ from classical to contemporary to country to fast to slow but all of us do love music. We play music and sing or make melody in our heart. But how many of us can sing whole day or even listen to music whole day?  If you are like me then you may play music all day when you are alone or doing household chores . Or we may play music before we pray to prepare our hearts before the Lord. You know, one thing I observed is that there will be times when our heart becomes so hard that inside you feel the need to pour out your heart before God but somehow the heart keeps hardening and you cannot even pray. During those times if we start worshipping the Lord by singing songs or by playing music, then the emotions will start flowing and we will pour out our hearts before God. Music has the power to heal and has the power to even break a hard heart. 

Recently I heard a popular speaker mention in his message that we should keep singing all through the day and he even added on a lighter note that we should even scold our family members as a song. (He meant it as a joke) It reminded me of what I shared with my niece about practicing to scold her with a smile on my face and I laughed out loud. I do not know if it is really advisable to scold others as a song but music, it definitely relieves tension. We all know that praise expels gloominess and sadness. Every time we feel discouraged or down if we start singing devotional songs and start praising God, automatically without us even realizing our hearts will be comforted and a kind of wonderful joy enters our heart.

In our today's verse David is telling that he will continually praise the Lord and bless Him all the time. He does not say bless the Lord when you are happy or praise when everything is going alright. In fact if we see the history of the psalm this psalm was written by David when he pretended to be insane in front of Abimelech, who sent him away. David was running for his life, he was hiding here and there as Saul pursued to kill him. Instead of feeling discouraged and angry at God David is praising God and blessing Him. David knew that everything, the good and bad it is the Lord who allows and that God is able to turn everything for his good. He trusted the Sovereignty of God and had faith in the goodness of the Lord. He trusted in the faithfulness of God and believed that if God has promised Him some thing then He will do it. He learned the art of encouraging himself in the Lord even when everyone turned against him.

You may ask, how will I praise God when my heart is so overwhelmed with pain. Start with this fact that God has blessed us with one more year to live. Praise him for the food, shelter and clothing he blessed us with. Praise him for the salvation and eternal life. And as you start counting your blessings and praise Him you will discover many more reasons to bless Him.

Dear ones, let this new year be a year of praise. And like the psalmist, let his praises be continually in our mouths too.

నిత్యము స్తుతించుము

కీర్తనలు 34: 1 నేనెల్లప్పుడు యెహోవాను సన్నుతించెదను. నిత్యము ఆయన కీర్తి నా నోట నుండును.

మ్యూజిక్ అంటే ఇష్టపడని వ్యక్తి ఈ లోకంలో ఎవరూ ఉండరని నా నమ్మకం. మన ఇష్టాలు వేరుగా ఉండవచ్చు, కొందరికి పాత పాటలు, కొందరికి కొత్తవి, కొందరికి ఫాస్ట్ మరియు కొందరికి స్లోగా ఉండే పాటలు  ఇష్టం ఉండొచ్చు కాని అందరము మ్యూజిక్ ఇష్ట పడతాము. మనము పాటలు వింటాము మరియు పాడతాము లేదా మనసులో పాడతాము. అయితే ఎంత మంది రోజంతా పాడగలరు లేదా పాటలు వినగలరు? ఒక వేళ మీరు కూడా నా లాగ అయితే అప్పుడు ఒంటరిగా ఉన్నప్పుడు లేదా పనులు చేసేటప్పుడు రోజంతా మ్యూజిక్ పెట్టుకోవచ్చు. లేదా మనము ప్రార్థన చేసే ముందు మన హృదయాలను దేవుని ఎదుట సిద్ధము చేసు కోవడానికి మ్యూజిక్ వినొచ్చు. ఇంకోకటి తెలుసా, నేను గమనించింది ఏమిటంటే ఒకొక్క సారి మన హృదయం చాలా కఠినమయి పోతుంది, ఒక వైపు మనకు మన హృదయాన్ని దేవుని ఎదుట కుమ్మరించాలి అని అనిపిస్తుంది కాని ఎందుకనో కాని హృదయం అంతకంతకు కఠిన మవుతూ ఉంటుంది ప్రార్థన కూడా సరిగా చేయ లేక పోతాము. అలాంటప్పుడు మనము కనుక పాటలు పాడుతూ లేదా మ్యూజిక్ పెట్టి దేవునిని స్తుతిస్తూ ఉంటే మన హృదయము కరిగి మనము దేవుని ఎదుట ప్రార్థించ గలుగు తాము. మ్యూజిక్ కి స్వస్థ పరిచే శక్తి ఉంది అలానే కఠిన హృదయాలను విరుగ కొట్టే శక్తి కూడా ఉంది.

ఈ మధ్యన నేను ఒక గొప్ప దైవ సేవకులు తన వర్తమానంలో ఈ విధంగా చెప్పడం విన్నాను, మనము రోజంతా పాటలు పాడుతూ ఉండాలి అని మరియు ఆయన సరదాగా ఇలా కూడా అన్నారు, మన కుటుంబ సభ్యులను తిట్టడం కూడా ఒక పాటలాగా పాడుతూ తిట్టాలి అని. అది విన్నప్పుడు నేను నా అక్క కూతురితో సరదాగా నవ్వుతూ తిట్టడం ఎలాగో నీ మీద ప్రాక్టీస్ చేస్తాను అని తనను ఏడిపించిన మాటలు గుర్తుకు వచ్చి నవ్వు ఆపుకో లేక పోయాను. అయితే ఇతరులను పాట పాడుతూ తిట్టడం సరైనది కాక పోవచ్చు కాని మ్యూజిక్ మాత్రము టెన్షన్ ను తగ్గిస్తుంది. మనకందరికి తెలుసు స్తుతి విచారాన్ని మరియు నిరాశను పారద్రోలుతుందని. ఎప్పుడైనా సరే మనము ఒక వేళ నిరాశ నిస్పృహ చెందితే అప్పుడు మనము పాటలు పాడుతూ దేవునిని స్తుతిస్తే అప్పుడు మనకు తెలియ కుండానే మనము ఆదరణ పొందుతాము మరియు మన హృదయము లో ఒక విధమైన సంతోషము కలుగుతుంది.

ఈ రోజు వాక్య భాగములో చూసినట్లయితే దావీదు తాను నిత్యము దేవుని కీర్తి తన నోట ఉండును మరియు ఎల్లప్పుడు యెహోవాను సన్నుతించెదనని చెబుతున్నారు. ఆయన మీరు సంతోషముగా ఉన్నప్పుడు దేవుని స్తుతించండి లేదా అన్నీ మనము అనుకున్నట్లు బాగా జరుగు తున్నట్లయితేనే దేవునిని స్తుతించండి అని చెప్పడం లేదు. ఇంకా చెప్పాలంటే ఈ కీర్తన యొక్క చరిత్ర చూసినట్లయితే దావీదు ఈ కీర్తనను అబీమెలేకు రాజు వద్ద పిచ్చి వాని లాగ నటించి అక్కడి నుండి పంపి వేయ బడినప్పుడు వ్రాసారు. దావీదు సౌలు నుండి తప్పించు కోవడానికి అక్కడ ఇక్కడ దాగు కొన వలసి వచ్చింది, ఎందుకంటే సౌలు మహారాజు దావీదు ప్రాణము తీయడానికి ఆయనను వెంటాడారు. అయితే దేవుని మీద కోపము తెచ్చుకొని నిరాశ పడటానికి బదులు దావీదు దేవునిని స్తుతిస్తున్నారు మరియు ఆయనను కీర్తిస్తున్నారు. దావీదు నకు తెలుసు సమస్తము, మంచి మరియు చెడు దేవుడు అనుమతిస్తేనే మన వద్దకు వచ్చునని మరియు దేవుడు అన్నిటినీ తన మేలునకు మార్చునని. ఆయన దేవుని యొక్క సార్వభౌమత్వాన్ని నమ్మారు మరియు దేవును యొక్క మంచి తనము మీద నమ్మకము కలిగి యున్నారు. దేవుడు నమ్మదగిన వాడని ఆయన విశ్వసించారు మరియు దేవుడు కనుక వాగ్దానము చేసినట్లయితే దానిని ఆయన తప్పక నెరవేరుస్తారని నమ్మారు. అందరూ తనకు వ్యతిరేకంగా ఉన్నప్పుడు కూడా తనను తాను దేవునిలో ప్రోత్సాహించు కోవడం నేర్చుకున్నారు.

మీరు అడగ వచ్చు నేను ఇంత బాధలో ఉన్నాను మరి దేవునిని ఎలా స్తుతించ గలను అని. మొదట దేవుడు మనలను ఇంకొక సంవత్సరం జీవించే ఆశీర్వాదం ఇచ్చారన్న విషయాన్ని బట్టి స్తుతించండి. ఆయన మనకు అనుగ్రహించిన ఆహారము, వస్త్రములు మరియు నివాస స్థలమును బట్టి స్తుతించండి. ఆయన మనకు దయ చేసిన రక్షణను బట్టి మరియు నిత్య జీవము కొరకు ఆయనను స్తుతించండి. ఇలా మనము మన ఆశీర్వాదాలు గుర్తు చేసుకుంటూ దేవునిని స్తుతించడం మొదలు పెడితే అప్పుడు ఆయనను కీర్తించడానికి మనకు అనేక కారణాలు తప్పక దొరుకుతాయి.

ప్రియమైన వార లారా, ఈ నూతన సంవత్సరం ఒక స్తుతి సంవత్సరం కానివ్వండి. కీర్తనా కారుని వలె ఎల్లప్పుడూ మన నోట కూడా దేవుని స్తుతి  ఉండును గాక.
